Just around the Corner
It’s that time again, pitchers and catchers report in just 17 days. But where does that leave the longest tenured Sox players? WIll Jason Varitek the captain since 2005, and TIm Wakefield one of the few knuckleball throwers in the league have a place with the team that they have been a part of for so long? I for one can not imagine the Red Sox without them, it took me a while getting used to not seeing the Rocket in a Red Sox uniform. And with the collapse of the team this past September there are a lot of expectations for the team this season, just like every other season. Red Sox Nation has been spoiled over the years, the whole state of Massachusetts has been spoiled by Boston teams. 2 World Series Titles, 3 Superbowls, A record setting 17th NBA Championship and a long awaited Stanley Cup title. But there are a lot of questions due to the changing of personnel, how the players will react to the the change. Only time will tell, but happy early new year Red Sox Nation.
Too Critical?
I know it’s early but Is it just me or is it okay to worry? The pitching has given up 26 runs in 3 games. I don’t know if it’s just me being too critical too early but I don’t know what to think or how to feel. The offense and defense has looked good but the pitching so far worries me.
It’s officially Baseball Season
In my opinion, the Red Sox season started on Tuesday (Truck Day). Here in RSN we see Truck Day as an unofficial holiday. It’s the day when the 18 wheeler truck full of boxes and boxes of Red Sox equipment and locker room stuff heads down to the Fort. The local news makes a big to do about it too, and rightfully so, it is a big to do. I get so excited about Truck Day and the days after, especially when the reporting days get closer and closer. I already have the schedule in my iCal, complete with all the spring training games. I’m excited for this season. Right now the Sox have the best team on paper, but that has to translate to the field too. A team can have the best team on paper, but if it does’t translate to the field, then it doesn’t really mean much. The Sox, in my opinion have the fastest team in the league with Jacoby and Carl Crawford. The two best base robbers in the league on the team, DAMN. I can’t wait to see them rob bases. Ah I can not wait until April 1st, April Fools Day. It’s the official start of the Red Sox seaon. It’s been such a long harsh winter here in the MA, that Baseball has been on my mind for a while. And the way things ended last season, this season is a fresh start with some wicked pissah fresh faces, and the familiar faces too. And as the truck on Truck Day said “First stop Fort Myers, Next stop the series.” Happy Baseball season everyone.
The End
Strange as it may seem, I held on as long as I could. Meaning I didn’t give up on the Sox when everyone else did. Maybe I should have, but I didn’t. I didn’t want to. I wanted to hang on, they hung on. They fought and fought as long and hard as they could. And yes they fought hard enough. For the first time in a long time, there will be no October for Boston. And yeah it sucks for Red Sox Nation. The effort was valiant effort from the Sox. And it sucks saying this, cause it’s been said so many times before but, “Wait Til Next Year.” I didn’t want to say it but it’s the truth there is always next year.
Down But Definitely Not Out
Earlier in the season when the Sox weren’t doing so hot, I had and still have an optimistic attitude. I know that anything can happen and that anything is possible. Some people think that it’s stupid to have such an optimistic outlook on something that may not really be optimistic at all. Some people already think that the Sox season is over, but me HELL NO. Theres still games to be played, so I do not think that the season is over, it would be so wrong of me to think that the season is over. I don’t think I would be a true Sox fan if I said that the season was over. It’s not over until it’s over. Do I know that its unlikely that they will make the playoffs? Yes, but I still have hope and faith. Sometimes giving up is taking the easy way out, but giving up when theres still more baseball left just seems wrong to me on so many levels. Considering what the Sox have been through this season, with all the injuries, they have managed very well, and have found ways to win games with what they have to work with. Pretty much players that were not well know, are now more known, and those players Darnell McDonald, Daniel Nava, and a lot of the rookies have stepped up pretty DAMN big. These guys deserve a lot of credit for what they have accomplished. Some people might not think that they helped at all, yet they have helped. Did I ever imagine that the majority of the Sox starting lineup would go down with injuries the way they did? No, and I don’t think anybody else imagined it either. Injuries are part of the game, thats a given. And I’m not even gonna listen to anybody that tells me “wait till next year.”
Happy New Year Red Sox Nation
Sunday night’s Red Sox season opener was one to remember.
From 5 year old Josh Sacco giving the miracle speech, to Pedro Martinez
throwing out the ceremonial first pitch, who probably heard some “who’s your
daddy?” chants from Yankees fans, to the fireworks, it was wicked awesome. Oh yeah and during the 8th inning
Neil Diamond performed “Sweet Caroline.”
He’s never performed it live at a game before and what was up with his
jacket? When the teams were announced it
was Mike Lowell the 2007 World Series MVP who got the biggest ovation, which
was rightly deserved as he has done so much for his team. The fans love him,
and he’s good to have as a back up third baseman in case something happens to
Adrian Beltre (the best defensive third baseman). Yes that’s right Adrian Beltre is the best
defensive third baseman, Alex Rodriguez (A-Rod) has nothing on him. It was Josh Beckett (Becks) pitching for the
Sox and C.C Sabathia pitching for the Yankees.
Josh Beckett did not look like Josh Beckett at all; maybe he and Victor
Martinez (V-mart) need to spend some more time playing catch. Last season V-Mart came during the middle of
the season, and he and Becks never got on the same page, there were rumors in
the off season that team captain Jason Varitek (Tek) would be Becks personal
catcher. He gave up back to back home
runs, against a team where he should have pitched better, but it was only the
first game of the season so Red Sox Nation shouldn’t be worried, he’s here for
four more years: D. And there was all this talk about how the Sox wouldn’t have
any offense, yeah right, the Sox came out swinging, especially Kevin Youkilis
(Youk), and Dustin Pedroia (Pedey, Pedroia the Destroia). Pedey hit a 2 run homer (which tied the
game), and Youk got in some good hacks.
Even the bottom of the lineup which for now is home to J.D Drew, Marco
Scutaro, Mike Cameron and Adrian looked good with their bats. The Sox won, the Yankees lost, The Nation is
happy, very happy.
I’M BACK!!!
So after a very long hiatus from blogging I am back to blogging. Some thoughts on the reloaded Sox right now, yes the Sox have been reloaded. And on paper they look stacked. They have one of the best defensive center fielders, one of the best defensive third baseman, they have one of the best shortstops, and we finally have John Lackey. Along with the new additions to the team, the Sox still have the most important thing, and that is the core group of guys. So right now on paper are the Sox the best team in the league yes, they have it all.
Been Here Before
As a die hard Red Sox fan, I always look for the positive and know that there’s always a chance for a comeback. The Sox have done it many times. Sometimes they even play better when their backs are against the wall. Having the next two games at Fenway is definitely a big plus too. They simply play better at Fenway. If they win these next two games at home, they’ll have some more confidence going into game 5 back in California. In order to win the Sox need some things to happen. The offense simply has to wake up, and the Sox need to score some runs. Another thing that needs to happen if the Sox win today’s game at Fenway Daisuke needs to start on Monday.
I’ll try to update the blog everyday during the Playoffs.
GO SOX!!!!!!!!!!
Youk got snubbed in my opinion and other opinions on the all stars
Youk in my opinion should be starting the All-Star game and not mark whatever is name is from the team that should not be named. Yes he still gets to go but he isn’t going as a starter. However time being it is understandable why he isn’t starting, he’s been playing third base lately as Mikey Lowell was placed on the DL. Pedroia and J-Bay on the other hand I’m not the least bit surprised that they are going as starters. There may be some who might not be happy about PD starting but the fans voted. I am so extatic about Wakefield going to the All-Star game. I hope he gets to start too. Beckett and Papelbon going to the All-Star game doesn’t surprise me at all.
Some things have me worried. As of right now the Red Sox have a slim 1 game lead of the the team that should not be named from the state that should not be named. It has me worried. The All-Star break is next week, so the slim lead will hopefully get a little bigger. If the Sox have like a 2 1/2 or 3 game lead over the team that I’m not naming I’ll be less worried. AND YES I know the Sox are still in first and I am very very happy about that. But hey it’s baseball and I know that anything can happen.
Haven’t posted in a while
First off, I hate the yankees with a passion so it’s only natural for me to say that the yankees have sucked against the Red Sox this season. A-fraud has been benched for 2 games. Big Papi got his swing back. Kevin Youkilis has a slim lead in All-Star voting.
